James Irvine

Born in London December 1958. Graduated at the Royal College of Art 1984. Moved to Milan in 1984. Design consultant for Olivetti design studio Milan from 1984 to 1992 designing industrial products ranging from office furniture to personal computers under the direction of Michele De Lucchi and Ettore Sottsass. In 1987, for a cultural exchange organised by Olivetti, worked for one year at the Toshiba Design Centre in Tokyo making design research for industrial products. Returned to Milan in 1988 and opened private design studio. Clients and projects for personal studio include: Cappellini Italy (Furniture, co-ordination of "Progetto Oggetto" with Jasper Morrison.) Alessi Twergi Italy (Objects in wood) SCP UK (Furniture designs) Vitra Germany (co-ordination of exhibition "Citizen Office") CBI Sweden (Furniture designs) Interlübke Germany (Furniture designs) Ûstra Germany (Re-design of city bus for Hannover) Campeggi Italy (Furniture designs) WMF Germany (Objects for the bar and drinking) Egizia Italy (Designs in glass) Magis Italy (Mobili). Since 1992, in parallel to private studio, is a partner of Sottsass Associati Milan and is responsible for the industrial design group. In 1993, first personal exhibition held at the Royal College of Art Stockholm.
